What is the leap year rule?
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4 — except century years (ending in 00), which are leap years only if also divisible by 400. So 2028 is a leap year, 2100 is not, and 2400 will be.
Why do we need leap years at all?
The Earth takes about 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun. A 365-day calendar drifts almost a quarter day per year, pushing seasons backwards over centuries. The leap-day system (and the century exception) keeps the calendar aligned with the seasons to within about a day every 3,000 years.
When is the next leap year?
